Cultural and national holidays
Cultural and national holidays often carry multiple stories and meanings. A song can connect with your own celebration, with carefully chosen language and details, without describing a whole culture or population as one whole.
The custom passed on in your circle
A flag is hung, a family recipe prepared or a story told that younger attendees don't know yet. What a holiday means can differ even within one family. Lyrics can therefore begin at a concrete custom and name why it counts for you, with attention for historical sensitivities and the words the community itself uses.
Which holiday do you celebrate, in which community and from which perspective? Which names, languages and customs are important, what is the historical meaning and which political or cultural sensitivities must be respected?
