Song about an inside joke
A song about an inside joke doesn't have to be understandable only for the people who were there at the time. By briefly telling the original scene, other guests can also follow why one saying keeps popping up.
First the incident, then the returning joke
At a dinner something was once ordered that nobody recognised, after which a confident explanation only made it stranger. The group has maybe repeated one word ever since. Give that word a setting in the song first: who sat where, what was said and when did it turn? That way the joke gets a story instead of only a secret code.
Which inside joke do you want to use and what happened originally? Who already understands the joke, who needs explanation and is the person it's about still happy with this story?
